NEW DELHI : 07.09.2020 Sabla Uthkarsh News Reporter….

A video conference was organized today by thr Ministry of Education, Govt.of India on the role of the National Education Policy 2020 in transforming higher education. Hon’ble President, Hon’ble Prime Minister, Governors, Lt.Governors and Education Ministers of various states were present at the conference.

The Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, Mr. Manish Sisodia gave some critical feedback and constructive inputs on the National Education Policy during the conference. He said, “The new national education policy lacks the action plan to implement it.” Shri Sisodia said, “the implementation of this policy should be carefully planned so that it is not limited to just a wonderful idea.”

Mr. Sisodia said, “Even after 73 years of independence, we hide the shortcomings of our governments by blaming Macaulay.” Shri Sisodia said, “In the year 1968 and 1986, new education policies were formulated. Macaulay is used as an excuse to hide the failures in the implementation of those policies. Macaulay did not stop us from implementing our own education policy since independence.” Mr. Sisodia said, “Today, we should take a pledge that no one will ever take Macaulay’s name to hide his shortcomings.”

Dy CM Mr. Sisodia said, “According to an article published in a newspaper today, every hour, a student in the country commits suicide. We need to think about the lapses in the education policies which caused immense pressure and stress among students resulting in a situation where someone commits suicide.”

Shri Sisodia said, “The National Education Policy talks about vocational education. At present, about 80 percent of the youth having a degree are not considered employable. This needs our attention. Even after completing 20 years of education, if our students are not employable then where does the fault lies?” Mr. Sisodia said, “It is inappropriate to treat Vocational degree differently from undergraduate degree in any other subject. These courses should be given equal importance, then only we will be able to reap their benefits.”

He said, “It is necessary to put national education policy into practice rather than restricting it to only wishful thinking. This policy talks about spending 6 percent of GDP on education. It has been said in 1968 policy as well but never implemented. Thus, a law should be made so that successive governments are bound by it and necessary resources needed for effective implementation of the policy can be guaranteed.”

Mr. Sisodia said, “It is very important to get out of the slavery of rote learning and examination-oriented education.” Welcoming the inclusion of early childhood education in the new education policy, Shri Sisodia said, “We have to compete with developed countries through education. However, if trained teachers teach young children there but in our country we assign the same role to Anganwadi workers, the foundation will remain weak” Describing this as fatal, Shri Sisodia said, “We can fulfill our dream of becoming a developed nation only by effective implementation of the new education policy.”
