DELHI – Miyawaki plantation method is a Japanese Technique which is developed by Akira Miyawaki.
It contains an urban forestry model in which plantation is done by ultra dense method comprising of over 40+ different species, that contains timber, medicinal, flowering, fruits & shrubs.
The growth is 10 times faster and 30 times denser than traditional plantation. At Ghazipur landfill entry over 1000 saplings are being planted in area of 450 sq mt using this plantation method. It will help absorb pollutants and harmful gases emitted from landfill to high extent. In a lifespan individual tree carbon stock accumulated is around 1500-2000 kg. It will help the local community to fight the pollution and other health hazards and help in ground water recharge and soil quality improvement.
This initiative of EDMC along-with Sayearth & SayTrees is sponsored under CSR by Baker & Hughes (GE company). This urban forest site will be self sustainable within span of 2 years and will be mantained till then. EDMC is hopeful about implementing similar activities in future as well.
